Modular Kit Sheds for your Island

Modular shedHaving a storage shed is an important part of any island home. Modular storage sheds are typically used as garden sheds to store garden tools, lawnmowers and boating equipment. However, modular sheds can also be adapted to be used as a workshop, sleeping cabin, pool house, studio or even as a home office. On islands sheds can also be build near or on the water to store boating or aquatic equipment.

Modular sheds are affordable, relatively easy to assemble and ubiquitous in that modular shed kits are available at most home building stores. Modular sheds come in a variety of sizes and styles making them adaptable to most island environments and island locations. Here are some things to consider when selecting a modular shed for your island.

Foundation: Pouring a foundation to secure your shed will increase both the cost and the time it takes to install your shed. However, the foundation will help protect and preserve your shed as well as keep it level. In addition thoroughly securing your shed will help keep it secure during a storm or hurricane.

Plan ahead: Don’t choose a shed based solely on price or appearance. Think about what you plan on using your shed for and what you intend on storing in your shed. For example, if you plan on storing riding lawnmowers or ATVs you will want to have a shed with double doors to ensure enough space to drive your equipment in.

Know the difficulty of construction: Modular sheds usually require some amount of construction which for inexperienced builders can pose a challenge. Choose a shed that is within your skill level and that you believe you can construct in a short period of time. Alternatively hire someone to assemble it for you, your home building store may offer this service at an extra cost.
